The Short Version

I'm Daniel Maricic. I break things, fix them, and write tools so nobody else breaks them the same way.

I've spent over a decade building systems that hold up under pressure. I've also occasionally set things on fire (metaphorically, mostly). I work across the full stack: designing blockchain protocols in Rust and TypeScript, building web apps with SvelteKit, managing Kubernetes clusters, and writing developer tooling that teams around the world actually use. Lately I've been focused on AI-native systems, integrating large language models into developer workflows and content management. I built woss.io as an AI-native portfolio with streaming LLM chat and RAG, and Macula.link as a content rights and asset management platform that uses cryptography to issue legally binding digital certificates for intellectual property.

Where I Actually Work

My happy place is backend and infrastructure engineering. TypeScript and Node.js are my native tongue, but I'm conversational in Rust, Deno, and Bun. I love contributing to open-source projects. It teaches patience, eloquence, and collaboration. I've sent PRs, done code reviews, implemented features, and fixed bugs across pnpm (the fast, disk-efficient package manager), rushstack (Microsoft's scalable monorepo build system), sharp (high-performance image processing), and Shai-Hulud-2.0-Detector (supply chain security). I contribute because I've benefited from open-source code my whole career. Over the past decade I've also worked on distributed systems, decentralized identity, and blockchain technologies, including founding a blockchain protocol startup (Anagolay Network).

How I Think About Code

The best code is code you don't have to maintain. I like elegant, maintainable systems that solve real problems instead of architecture astronautics. I gravitate toward projects at the intersection of infrastructure, developer tooling, and decentralized tech. My approach: pick the right tool for the problem, not whatever's trending this month.

The Long Version

I founded a software consultancy (7Signals Consultancy Ltd), a blockchain protocol startup (Anagolay Network), and built Kelp.Digital and Macula.link. Macula is a content rights and asset management platform where I was the solo technical founder and engineer, writing more than 44,000 lines of TypeScript and owning every layer from infrastructure to user experience. I've also led engineering teams at agencies like Nord Software, contributed to projects across fintech, digital media, and decentralized identity. I've written Web3 Foundation grants, spoken at developer conferences, mentored junior engineers, and hired for engineering roles. My experience spans early-stage startups and established product teams. I've seen software built at every scale, from a garage to a grid.

Technical Founder: Kelp.digital & Macula.link

Kelp.digital is my flagship project: a content rights platform that uses cryptography to issue legally binding digital certificates for intellectual property. Macula.link is the asset management system behind it, a full-stack platform I built from scratch as a solo technical founder.

I acted as founder, architect, and sole engineer: designing the protocol, building the infrastructure, writing every line of production code. The system spans a content delivery network, a SvelteKit front-end, a custom MCP server for AI integration, a Lightroom plugin that automatically syncs to Macula, and 44,000 lines of TypeScript across the stack. It runs on my own cluster with QuestDB for time-series data, SurrealDB for the asset graph and V2 analytics, and PostgreSQL as the main database.

This project proved I could carry a product from zero to production alone, owning every layer from infrastructure to user experience.

Open Source

Beyond pnpm, rushstack, and sharp, I maintain several open-source projects including the dali monorepo (github.com/woss/dali-orm). It contains DaliORM (a type-safe ORM for SurrealDB, npm @woss/dali-orm) and DaliMemory (an AI memory tool based on SurrealDB, npm @woss/dali-memory), along with Macula (a private decentralized asset management platform) and various developer tooling libraries. I build in public because it keeps me honest, and I contribute back because open-source code is the reason most of this stuff works.

A couple more creative projects I'm particularly fond of: git-gpg-remote-sign signs git commits and tags with GPG keys stored on remote servers. elmo is an Efficient Link Management and Organization tool built entirely on IPFS for storage and retrieval of links and content.
